I have been subscribing to two environment related news sources for the past two years.
One of them being Grist. They provide a humorous take on various issues that affect the United states of America. I have found most articles by them authentic.
The other update is called PA-update run by Pankaj Sekhsaria (psekhsaria@gmail.com) at Kalpavriksh. It provides a thorough, across the states of India, report on the protected areas.
I have learnt quiet a bit from both of them.
